New mare on the block . . .

Our latest acquisition is ‘Esperanza’, a sweet strawberry roan mare with a white ´pampita´face which is very typical colouring for criollo horses. She is 7 years old and has just had a foal, and so just returning to work. She has only been ridden lightly so far, and the poor thing finds the countryside a little spooky . . .so many scary blades of grass and shadowy twigs!

She has been turned out in a field with a couple of new friends to help her settle, and we are sure it won’t be long before she is entertaining our guests . . .

What does “Esperanza” mean in English? It is a beautiful name. You say she just had a foal. Was this an accidental foal or do you usually have winter babies? We will wean my husbands foal shortly and I know the mare is in for a rude awakening getting back into real work!

Hi Sarah. ‘Esperanza’ means ‘Hope’ . . .so we ´hope´ she enjoys her new life with us! Her foal has just been weaned from her. We try to have the mares foal down somewhere between Sept and Dec - after the really cold nights and before the flies. However, our stallions have an amazing ability to foil our best-layed plans . . .! We are expecting 20 foals this year, so we are going to be busy.
